“My SUV states shift to park, but I already have it in park and it will not shut off. I have to keep starting it up for it to shut-off. Also when I go to the gas station to fill my SUV up with gas and try to start it up it will not start. I keep trying to start it up and after about 10 to 15 minutes it finally starts.”

NHTSA complaint #11627871, filed 2024-11

“For the last week or so, my car, a 2022 Buick Encore GX Sport, that I bought brand new and currently only has 30,000 miles, does not acknowledge being in Park when I park the vehicle and try to turn it off. This causes the car to remain on and radio playing and it beeping that it needs attention and to shift it to Park. if you try to close the door, it honks letting you know the car is still on, and pushing the shifter forward, trying to ensure it is all the way in Park does not resolve the issue. …”

“At 15,000 miles the check engine light came on while going to a store. At the store, the vehicle was put in park and tried to shut off engine. The dash said shift to park . Took to the dealer, was told sensor went out on transmission. They said it was the electronic controle module. They didn't think that was part of the drive train warranty. When I looked online I found many other Buick owners complained of same issue. Posting online that they are slamming shifter into park up to 20 times to get sensor to register that it is in park so they can shut vehicle off. …”

NHTSA complaint #11761985, filed 2026-09

“I have a 2022 Buick Encore GX with 34,200 miles and I put my car in park but the dashboard said Shift to Park. I tried several times to put it in park but it wouldn't recognize it was in park. The car also wouldn't cut off. I reversed and went forward and back several times trying to put it in park, but it wouldn't see it was in park. I called the dealership and they said jam the gear shifter really hard forward and it would recognize it until they could see the car. The only appointments they had were 2 weeks away. I can't use my car for 2 weeks. That isn't right. …”

NHTSA complaint #11743014, filed 2026-06

“I get an error shift to park when I put my vehicle in park and shut it off. It goes into accessory mode and beeps. If I try to leave the vehicle, it will honk to alert me about the issue and I can't lock the vehicle and it stays in accessory mode. To alleviate this issue, I have to put the vehicle in reverse for a few feet and then drive forward and put it into park again, which can take many, many attempts to finally get the error to stop. This could be a safety issue if I have passengers trying to exit the vehicle while I'm attempting this maneuver. …”
