“Engine stall with loss of steering and brakes when turning from tower oaks st onto jones road, a busy 4 lane road. Car stopped in oncoming lane on jones road, just avoiding a head on collision. Crankshaft sensor failure. Had car towed to dealer who infomed me that there was no recall on the crankshaft sensor of the chevrolete avalanche paid dealer $540. For cransshaft sensor replacement. Have not had a stalling problem sence replacing the cranshaft sensor. This is a very dangerous situation and can cause severe accidents as the loss of steering and brakes is critical.”
NHTSA complaint #10891573, filed 2016-07, 92,894 miles“While driving at 65 on the freeway truck began to lose power and when I stepped on gas it didn't respond. Had to keep letting foot off and back on to get it to go. Pulled over to the shoulder turned truck off and it ran good for about 3 minutes and it repeated itself. When engine gets hot the truck loses power and you have to shut it off and repeat this step until you get to where you gotta go. No codes, no warning no nothing. Truck also shuts off while driving. Replaced fuel pump, filter, cleaned maf and throttle body replaced crank shaft sensor and it still does this.”
NHTSA complaint #10606583, filed 2014-06, 152,000 miles“The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet AVALANCHE 1500. While attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. The contact stated that the vehicle eventually started up after waiting for a while. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the fuel pump, battery, and starter were changed; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the starter was replaced again; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.”
