“I have a 2004 Chevrolet avalanche and have had several flat tires, was never stuck on the highway so never removed the spare tire. Today and yesterday 02-13-10 / 02-14-10 have been trying to remove the spare tire and feel grateful the failure occurred in my driveway. If not I would be stuck, as it is impossible to remove the tire from under the truck. I did review the instructions, soak the tire release in penetrating oil and made a dozen attempts to remove the tire. The result was a sore back, the first part of the jack handle extension stuck in the back of the truck. …”
NHTSA complaint #10310329, filed 2010-02, 58,000 miles“Driver and passenger exterior door latch did not latch when door was closed. While the driver was turning right on a village street, both the driver and passenger doors opened unexpectedly. While in motion around the turn the driver attempted to close the door to avoid oncoming traffic. During the attempt to close the door, the car hit a tree on the right side of the road. A police report was filed. I suspect the stuck latch was due to water and/or dirt getting in the latch hinge.”
NHTSA complaint #11039418, filed 2017-10, 160,000 miles“Retaining hook attached to underside of hood is rusting apart from the hood panel. Chunks of rusted metal are falling off of the area around the hood retaining hook. Vehicle is still under rust warranty but general motors will not honor rust through warranty. Severe rust began when vehicle was approx 2 years old. Partial or complete separation of this retaining hook could cause hood to fly open at speed. Many members of the chevy avalanche fan club have the same issue, but it is more noticeable on a vehicle with white paint.”

When my front passenger tire with axle inside it still came off and rolled away from the vehicle. My vehicle immediately bottomed out afterwards. I was informed by the previous owner after the accident that it happened to the front driver side as well. This has left me”
NHTSA complaint #10925307, filed 2016-11“The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet AVALANCHE 1500. The contact stated that fuel fumes emitted into the interior of the vehicle. The contact stated that the ABS warning lamp flashed randomly and the brake pedal became extremely difficult to depress to stop the vehicle. The seat belts failed to work properly to secure and retract. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop and the fuel lines were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The dealer replaced the cables associated with the tailgate. …”
