“I own a Chevrolet Cobalt (2006) with 40,000 miles. The car will start, but occasionally the power steering will go, the engine light comes on, and it will sputter and have trouble accelerating. When I stop it makes a thud noise. This occurs once every two days, and to this point it is in the local Chevrolet dealer being diagnosed.”

NHTSA complaint #10273195, filed 2009-06, 40,000 miles

“I bought this car back in june. And I have had nothing but problems with the car. Numerous problems with the computers in the car. From the ECM, to the PCM, and the bcm. I also have proof the odometer has also been rolled back. If needed for this investigation can send a copy. The cars has been serviced now 5 times. This time it is sending error codes to the computer of random misfires on the first and fourth cylinder.”

NHTSA complaint #10206949, filed 2007-10, 41,278 miles

“My cars engine has stalled several times today, it idles low when moving from a stopped position like at a stop light and when I give it gas it idles high and then when I stop or slow down it stalls in the middle of traffic almost causing a major accident. I was so scared today. I will not drive it again until I figure out the problem. I am glad me or my son didn't get into a very bad accident. When I purchased the car brand new it did this and I took it to the dealership and they could find nothing wrong with it, but it has never seemed to idle correctly.”

NHTSA complaint #10443749, filed 2012-01, 62,551 miles

“I purchased a 2006 chevy Cobalt ss w/ 2.4 liter non-supercharged engine. At about 5,000 miles the car began shaking while braking. I took the car to the dealership and they informed me that the front rotors were delaminated and they machined them down smooth again. This fixed the problem for about another 5-600 miles, then the shaking started again. My car had to go back to the dealer again and they machined them down again without replacing the rotors-they said they just pass inspection. …”

NHTSA complaint #10189406, filed 2007-05, 15,000 miles

“Exhaust - muffler - went to 3 different service places and the baffles in the muffler are bad and rattling around inside the muffler. None of the commercial service places are able to put a new muffler on as chevy has not released the muffler to my 2006 chevy Cobalt ss - called the dealership and they say it is not covered under my extended warranty - the car is only 3 years old and has not been in any accidents. Dealership does not stock this muffler and wants almost $550 just to replace the muffler. I will be looking for a new car and not a chevy!!”
