“While driving, the ABS light appeared on the dashboard. The consumer applied the brake pedal and it went to the floor, and the vehicle didn't stop. The dealer stated the electronic module needed to be replaced. It would cost $1000.”

NHTSA complaint #10033737, filed 2003-09, 67,600 miles

“Paint has been coming off all over the car, causing rust spots. Brakes sometimes do not catch and you have to push the pedal all the way to the floor. Also the brake and brake pads have to be changed once a month because they wear out too quickly. The power locks stick in the cold weather and will not lock or unlock until it warms up. When I was in a crash the drivers airbag did not deploy causing me to hit my face on the steering wheel.”

NHTSA complaint #737004, filed 2000-11

“While driving on the freeway, traffic stopped but our car did not. The brakes were applied correctly and we had space to stop but we did not and rearended the vehicle in front of us. The 2nd time this happened on a city street when the brakes were applied suddenly. The car just did not stop. Mechanics can find nothing wrong with the brakes. Gm recalled suvs with this problem. Is there a recall pending for our vehicle? Or how do we get this fixed?”

NHTSA complaint #711212, filed 2000-04

“Abs is not working. Gm dealer said cannot be repaired because no code appears on their computer. Without code dealer is unable to determine problem. Dealer relined front and rear brakes at my expense. This did not correct the problem. I have a vehicle which I feel is not safe due to lack of braking power because of ABS not working. Dealer stated that this is a constant problem with GM cars but they cannot correct the problem until their computer shows the repair code indicating the failed part..”

NHTSA complaint #711279, filed 2000-04

“The ABS has gone on twice - dealer failed to repair, claimed it was the bulb -brakes were replace 4 times in 1 year; then the from rotors rotted and brakes and rotors were replaced again. Then the left front control arm broke - the day after the repair, the right from control arm broke. I had the repairs done at a garage other than the dealer - I was then told that the parts dealer said Chevrolet re-designed the front control arms due to this problem. I contacted Chevrolet and they said they had no complaints . Well, it's a serious enough defect that the tires could have come off. …”
