“After filling car with gas, the car smells like it has a leak. The garage smells so bad I have to put the car outside in the drive way until is cools down because I'm worried about it starting a fire. The smell of gas is strong. I've talked to other 2008 c6 owners and they are having the same issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10777812, filed 2015-09, 13,000 miles

“Severe gas smell left in a closed area after corvette use. When the car is driven and then parked in a garage, the garage smells severely of fuel. If aired out, the smell dissipates. If not, the odor is overwhelming. Upon review, it appears the smell is coming front the drivers side left-hand fuel tank. The leak affects the safety of the car passengers as the gasoline leak from the tank drips onto the exhaust. My mother is 94 years old and has ridden with me while this issue was occurring. Little did I understand the potential impacts on my families well-being. …”

“The other day I smelled gas in my garage. The smell is bad until the fuel level drops below 1/2 tank. I took my car to the dealer and they said they cannot find a leak. I mentioned if this is covered under the 80k mile emission warranty and they said it was not. There are many complaints about this issue and the solution is to drop the tanks because the issue may lie in the fuel pump and leaking tanks on the top. I believe this is a serious safety issue regarding leaking fuel tanks and the consumer should not pay for a faulty item being a serious safety issue. …”

NHTSA complaint #10547314, filed 2013-10, 48,500 miles

“Almost every time I fuel the vehicle gas shoots out of the filler neck when the pump stops. The first time , gas was gushing out and down the side of the car onto the ground because the pump did not stop. Luckily it did not catch fire. This is on a new 2008 Chevrolet corvette z 06 ! It is very critical that I do not try to put in more gas when the pump stops or it shoots out of the filler neck. My 2001 CORVETTE Z06 never had this problem. I hope this never results in a fire , I do not want to see my car burn. Thank you edward lipman”
