NHTSA complaint #10140279, filed 2005-10, 80,000 miles“Gm should recall faulty intake manifold gasket installed in their vehicles . As of april 10, 2002, there is a nationwide backorder of the intake manifold gasket. At this time, is it not even known when the part will become available. Being aware of this proves there is a serious problem to be addressed. Because of apparent poor engineering, GM can not manufacture replacements fast enough for all the vehicles in which they are needed. Intake manifold leaks can lead to any number of very serious, and expensive, problems. …”
NHTSA complaint #10010762, filed 2003-03, 66,500 miles“Lower intake manifold gasket on my 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. There was a recall on other GM products with the same problem. Chevrolet however says my model is not included in their recall. I disagree, because the manifold gasket is a continiuing problem prevalent if not all, than most GM vehicles in this time period.”
NHTSA complaint #10100141, filed 2004-11“Took my car to my mechanic for it's regular 3000 mile oil change. He told me at that time that the head gaskets were leaking. I called the manufacturer and was told that in order to diagnose the problem I would have to take it to the dealership where I purchased the car. I was rather reluctant to this as I had problems in the past with this same dealership. I had taken my car there several times because the oil light would not go off and they were unable to find anything. I also had a problem with my check engine light and again they could find nothing. …”
NHTSA complaint #741353, filed 2001-02“The car cuts out, has a miss or hesitation that has not been detected on machinery.the engine was replaced, the fuel pump replaced, I was told not to use bp or super america gas, no higher than 87 octane and I have done everything religiously.the dealer has had the car on multiple occasions & admits a problem.I became so frustrated that I filed a complaint with the ohio attorney general's office.automobile complaints are outsourced and autocap has been working to resolve the problem.however, after a year I remain frustrated.I have narrowly escaped at least two accidents because of this…”
