Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“While driving the car at 35 MPH., suddenly I was unable to steer it. It turns out that the sub frame of the car is cracked and needs totally replaced at approx. $1100. After extensive research, I understand that this is not a part of the car that should wear out and should not have cracked. (this could have resulted in a death or severe injury. I believe GM needs to make compensation for this repair.)”

NHTSA complaint #10364950, filed 2010-11, 101,000 miles

“While turning the steering wheel became hard to turn. The service dealer found a leak in the rack and pinion. The dealer stated that there was no leak and had given the vehicle back to the consumer. (the rack and pinion was replaced) the AC was found inoperative due to the suction and discharge hose leaked, the engine raced but didn't move due to low transmission fluid, and the left rear tail lamp seal had fallen apart.”

NHTSA complaint #10017239, filed 2003-04, 33,625 miles

“Consumer stated his daughter's vehicle hit something with the rear bumper at a low impact of 5 MPH or less, and both frontal air bags deployed for unknown reason. No injuries were reported. Dealer and manufacturer were not notified.”

NHTSA complaint #10105172, filed 2004-12, 33,840 miles

“I was traveling south bound on I-45 at 6:45am. Once in the construction area right before the west bound exit to I-94 a large object fell from the bridge and bust my passenger window.”

NHTSA complaint #10626862, filed 2014-08

“I have a 1999 chevy Malibu. I noticed last year about august around my gas tank the paint was starting to bubble, so I took it in to a chevy dealer in livonia to see if there was a warranty on the bubbling paint, they had told me the warrant was up on that, they had also said that they had been getting a lot of complaints about the same issue from other owners of a 1999 chevy Malibu. I wanted to know if general motors is going to have a recall on that, or do I just have the problem fixed by a body shop?”
