“Left side tail gate strap broke in two with no load other than the latch for the gate keeps coming unlatched while vehicle is in motion and now the strap has separated in the center of the cable. No routine load is carried on this gate and vehicle is just two years old.”
NHTSA complaint #10052693, filed 2004-01, 36,000 miles“I own a 2002 chevy Silverado, the tailgate cables that hold the tailgate onto the truck broke smooth in half while the tailgate was down and only two adults were sitting on the tailgate.this truck is only a year old and this happens, they are supposse to last alot longer than that.”
NHTSA complaint #10026003, filed 2003-07, 47,897 miles“If the truck drives over the slightest pump or pot hole in the road the tailgate pops open. This is due to a failure in the latching system. Dealership replaced the latching system. This is a common failure with these vehicles.”
NHTSA complaint #10109144, filed 2005-01, 40,000 miles“Complaint received via e-mail. We have a truck which we brought brand new and have had it back to the dealer for vibration ever since we bought it. They have done nothing, but balance at the tire. We have had brand new goodyear tires put on the truck, mounted, balanced, etc,. And it continued to vibrate. They said there was nothing wrong with it, yet it continued to vibrate between 40-50 MPH. We recently found a service bulletin on the truck #3009. The passenger door lock was falling off, the passenger side rear door was hard to shut and the driver door lock popped out.”
NHTSA complaint #10097911, filed 2005-01“The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that approximately 2 months ago she began to notice that the driver side door latch will not stay latched. The door flew open while she was going around a corner at approximately 35 MPH. She also said that the door handle does not go in after she pulls it out to open the door and as a result you can not get out of the vehicle if you are inside. The dealer had not been contacted. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 50,000. Updated 01/03/11”
