“2004 Chevrolet SSR: hood prop failure. The flimsy hood prop holding the gigantic SSR hood is bent. I have purchased an aluminum hood prop to use instead of the faulty factory thin prop. Many have failed and hoods have fallen all the way closed. Mine would too were I to continue use. Jg”
NHTSA complaint #10086739, filed 2004-08, 250 miles“Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet SSR problem: flimsy hood prop rod and a very heavy hood. The rod slipped and the hood fell. Luckily no one was injured, but could easily have been. Solution: the 2005 Chevrolet SSR is reported to have a self supporting pneumatic lift. The 2003 and 2004 ssrs should be retrofitted by Chevrolet at no cost to the owner.”
NHTSA complaint #10086516, filed 2004-08, 3,500 miles“Ssr is parked in driveway in nov 07. Receive approx two inches of rain, SSR leaked in floor on passenger side. Approx 1 1/2 of water in floor. Took to check dealer, dealer outsourced problem. Was told there was a crack in a pillar . Resealed pillar, problem solved. Received three inches of rain in apr 08, SSR leaked in floor on passenger side. Approx 2 of water in floor. Took back to chevy dealer, dealer outsourced problem. Told leak is different problem, told car door had two sided sticky adhesion which was not sticking to door, repaired. I don't believe this solution sounds correct.”
NHTSA complaint #10226756, filed 2008-05, 10,500 miles“The convertible top continues to has issues. The dealer has replaced the seals at least 4 times, adjusted the windows 6-8 times. Chevy offered to make a payment for me but the problem continues. I have also complained about wind noise and leakage since day one.”
NHTSA complaint #10174246, filed 2006-11“Re: 2004 chevy SSR, hood prop not strong enough to hold hood up. The hood prop bends under the weigh of the hood. The consumer is concerned about the possibility of the hood prop failing and the hood falling resulting in injury or death.”
