Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Both front seat belts lock up and do not release. It does this intermittently but mostly does not work properly. When they do work they tighten & tighten to the point of almost being painful. Mechanics do not know why this should happen unless it is the seat belt control module which can only be done by a dealer. One word expensive! This is a safety & law issue and should be the responsibility of the manufacturer for faulty safety product and operation. After my research I see many of the same issues with the seat belts over and over. This is a repetitive problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10594737, filed 2014-05, 160,000 miles

“I own a 1999 Chrysler Sebring Convertible that all the seat belts lock in the retracted position for no apparent reason. This occurs randomly and lasts for a week or more at a time. I use the car very little because of this. The local dealer mike famous (now closed) said it would be about $700 to repair. I think this is unacceptable since this is of safety in nature. I consider seat belts a valuable protective device that should not fail like this ever. I don't have any chance of using seat belts when I want to use the car. …”

NHTSA complaint #10275477, filed 2009-07, 85,000 miles

“There is no incident yet. The seat belts lock and will not release to allow driver and passenger to buckle seat belt. Occasionally the belts will release and allow driver/passenger to buckle. Then they will lock as if there was a sudden stop. The failure of the seat belts to work occurs daily.”

NHTSA complaint #10265530, filed 2009-04, 111,000 miles

“Front seat belts, driver and passenger lock up and will not release. It is getting worse, in the last 3 days, it has locked up twice and currently they are lock and will not release from the seats to be used”

NHTSA complaint #10628415, filed 2014-08, 97,000 miles

“Intermittently both front seat belts are locked into the seat belt retractor and can not be used. Took it to a mechanic that could not figure out how to fix it. The car is a convertible and should never be driven without proper restraints.”

NHTSA complaint #10375268, filed 2011-01, 72,000 miles
