“The driver seat mechanism failed during mild acceleration, causing the driver to be thrown backwards. The seat tilt mechanism has a plastic and metal gearbox that broke causing the seat to swing forward under braking and backward under acceleration. This causes control problems as the movement is about 1 foot. The dealer was pressured to replace the failed part and claims this is the first time it has ever occurred. The truck was 15 months old at the time of failure with 56,000 miles on the odometer. The part has not been improved, so I am looking at replacing this mechanism every 15 months! …”
NHTSA complaint #10171049, filed 2006-10, 56,509 miles“The contact owns a 2005 Dodge RAM 2500 diesel. The contact stated that the driver side front seat moved forward during deceleration. Instability while driving increased the risk of a vehicle crash. As of current date the vehicle has not been repaired. He took the vehicle to the dealer and a technician stated that he needed to replace the seat tracker at approximately $500.00. The component has not been replaced. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.”
