“I am the owner of a 96 Dodge RAM 1500 ext. Cab truck. I purchased the truck with 33000 mile from vancouver Dodge in vancouver, washington on jan 17, 1998. At the time of purchase the vehicle was equipped with firestone firehawk atx tires size 30 x 9.50 r15.( DOT number: tire size: 30x9.50r15 )”

NHTSA complaint #727334, filed 2000-08

“2 original tires have failed with tread separation (first one shown on claude short invoice #191081, with note about additional bad tire). After publicity about NHTSA probe of these tires, I called goodyear and visited a local dealer. Goodyear will not reimburse or replace, (customer service called 11/22/2000, and local dealer visited same day). After separation failure and replacement of two of the original four tires, I am afraid of these tires. (tiresize: lt245/75)( DOT number: tire size: lt245/75 )”

NHTSA complaint #737563, filed 2000-12

“I carry a heavy camper, although in spec for the tires, about 25% of the time. Two tires failed by tread separation at about 13000 miles, no more than 5000 miles loaded. I paid for replacements. There was lots of tread left. Two more had failed by about 25000 miles, with about 5000 miles of loaded operation. These miles were at greatly reduced speed because of fear of failure. Again I replaced the tires, they were not given to me. Goodyear says the truck is at fault, Dodge says the tires are bad. No one laughed out loud. …”

NHTSA complaint #736061, filed 2000-11

“The contact stated while driving 65 MPH on dry highway pavement the rear driver tire had tread separation without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered off the road and the tire was changed. The dealer has not been alerted. The consumer stated he inspected the other threee tires and noticted the same defects. Updated 08/21/06.”

NHTSA complaint #10164528, filed 2006-08, 116,000 miles

“While inspecting the tires consumer noticed that they dry rotted and separated at the base where the tread was connected . Dealership inspected the tires, and acknowledged the failure. But did not provide the cause of the failure, instead offered consumer 50% off a new set of tires.”

NHTSA complaint #10087158, filed 2004-08
