“I have a 2001 Dodge RAM 2500 diesel pickup and the dash is cracked and have a couple of large holes approximately 8 inches wide. I have heard that there are many other 2001 Dodge RAM's that have this same problem. I am concerned about the wiring behind the dash exposed to the elements. I am concerned about component failure and possibly a fire resulting from exposed wiring.”
NHTSA complaint #10259913, filed 2009-02, 70,000 miles“I own a 2001 Dodge that (just like everyone else) has many cracks from the windshield to the front of the dash (plastic). This problem started about two yrs after purchase. I am lucky that all of the electrical in the dash still works, but it looks like crap. The sunglass door on the overhead console (plastic) is broken. The cup holder (plastic) is broken. This is crazy everyone with an 01 Dodge RAM knows there was a problem with the plastic that went into the interior. Please do what you can to make these people stand behind there product.”
NHTSA complaint #10290057, filed 2009-10, 40,000 miles“Multiple cracks in the dash have occurred, forming sharp edges and points that are hazardous in case of hard stops or accidents. The manufacturer refuses to acknowledge danger, stating this is a cosmetic issue, but the sharp, hard plastic is indeed a safety hazard. A mandatory recall and replacement of the dash plastic should be ordered.”
NHTSA complaint #10436140, filed 2011-11, 116,000 miles“Dt: while driving down a hill the brakes went out. The contact was able to get it safely off the highway. This occurred on august 15, 2005. The contact took vehicle to a mechanic. They said that it was due to the way that the van was built. He said that it caused the battery to leak and burn a whole in the brake line. The vehicle is still at the mechanic's shop. The contact was concerned that someone else could have an accident due to the problem with the vehcile's structure.”
NHTSA complaint #10139725, filed 2005-10, 48,000 miles“Dt: was pulling a trailer at 45 MPH the vehicle started fish tailing. Without the trailer at 55 MPH the vehicle will fish tail. Took the vehicle to chrysler , and found that it was shaky. The tie rods ends, ball joints, and the check bar malfunctioned on the front of the vehicle. Almost had a wreck. This happened on 24, june 2205. The consumer stated the vehicle was poorly designed, the front of the vehicle was too light for the weight of the engine. There was no grease fitting for the ball joint. The rotors were replaced.”
