NHTSA complaint #11016284, filed 2017-08, 90,000 miles

“Since 2006 my '06 Dodge Stratus has spontaneously accelerated approximately seven times, most recently in february 2010. Idling in a driveway or at an intersection, the engine will begin to race as if I had floored the gas pedal. Only by shifting into park and/or turning off the ignition am I able to prevent the car from accelerating into the intersection or a wall. The Dodge dealer who regularly serviced the vehicle said they could not diagnose the problem unless the car was hooked up to their equipment at the time of the next occurrence. Consequently, nothing has been done to fix this.”

NHTSA complaint #10351111, filed 2010-08, 20,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Stratus. She smelled a strong odor of gasoline in her vehicle after filling up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The technician ordered the gas tank but it will cost her $1000.00 to replace the component. The manufacturer was notified, and she was advised that there were no recalls. The failure mileage was 53,000. Updated 12/09/09 the dealer found the fuel tank was cracked around the fuel filler neck. The check engine light illuminated due to a small evaporator leak. Updated 12/11/09”

NHTSA complaint #10290393, filed 2009-10, 53,000 miles

“While driving a rented Dodge Stratus with the cruise control set at 60 MPH the vehicle began to slow down to 35 MPH. The driver was unable to get the vehicle to accelerate and pulled onto the shoulder of the road. The consumer stated there was no gas going to the engine and the vehicle lost power. Updated 06/03/10”
