Example complaints
Fuel system: “The gas tank has expanded apparently due to an interaction with the ethanol in the fuel. This causes it to bulge from the frame of the bike. The malformation of the tank causes the handle bars to touch the tank limiting movement, the opening for the key to be obstructed, and the paint and decals to become damaged. The effect of the fuel on the tank is a known consequence to the manufacturer.”
NHTSA complaint #10415866, filed 2011-07, 1,900 milesElectrical system: “I was riding my motorcycle, a 2010 Ducati streetfighter, when the engine cut out while I was leaned over in a slow turn (10-15mph). The engine stopped completely locking up the rear wheel, and because I was in a turn, it caused the rear wheel to slide, causing me to wreck my motorcycle. The engine of a motorcycle should never, ever turn off while riding (I did not run out of gas, turn the ignition key or touch the kill switch). This defect could have killed me, had it happened in the certain circumstances. I have contacted Ducati north america, but have not heard anything back from them. …”
