“My 2000 Gmc pick up truck has a loud engine noise referred to as piston slap. The noise has been present since I purchased the vehicle. I have since found that this is a common defect with some GM engines. The dealer states that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle but many web sites describe it as a manufacturing & design defect. I believe this causes decreased performance and increased fuel consumption.”
NHTSA complaint #10167660, filed 2006-09, 10 miles“My catalytic converters failed once under warranty around 79000 miles and again around 110000. I paid for the second. I am having trouble again at 117000 miles and come to find out the problem is due to a leaking intake manifold gasket. This is allowing coolant to find its way into the exhaust destroying the quite expensive parts.”
NHTSA complaint #10178471, filed 2007-01“The contact owns a 2000 Gmc SIERRA 1500. While driving 65 MPH, the fan stopped blowing without warning. The sensor resistor was replaced several times. The dealer stated that the harness needed to be replaced at the cost of $500. The manufacturer stated that they were aware of the failure. There were no recalls available, therefore, the manufacturer was unable to provide assistance. The current mileage was 191,360 and failure mileage was 189,000. Updated 12-12-07. Updated”
