NHTSA complaint #11375274, filed 2020-11, 102,000 miles

“I was driving home when the driver-side door handle fell apart. The silver plastic coating was peeling, but the door handle seemed fine otherwise when I got in my car to drive home. Luckily, I was in the driveway, pulling into my garage. The car door would not close or lock afterwards.”

NHTSA complaint #10946549, filed 2017-01, 90,000 miles

“Unable to open driver's side door to exit vehicle. I have to roll down window and use exterior handle to get out of vehicle. The vehicle was stationary. My warranty was 2 months and 2 days expired. Dealership wanted $140 just to diagnosis the problem. I did not have the money to do this. My son removed the door handle and found a broken plastic clip that normally would engage and open the door. We were unable to find a replacement part. I am concerned that if I need to exit the vehicle quickly, I would be unable to do so.”

NHTSA complaint #11257893, filed 2019-09, 30,000 miles

“The vehicle rear ended a ford escape at under 20 MPH. The Hyundai sustained extensive front end and engine damage. The car was totaled and not repaired. The other vehicle received minor rear bumper damage. The air bags on the Hyundai did not deploy and the driver hit her forehead and receive a bruised bump that did not require medical attention.”

NHTSA complaint #10458996, filed 2012-05, 12,357 miles

“Takata recall. My wife was sideswiped by a hit and run driver and ran off the road onto a rough vacant field. Airbag failed to deploy and she hit her head on the steering wheel and suffered a skull fracture. Two weeks after the accident she started having memory problems and has suffered 5 strokes and a ct scan shows brain damage. This has gone on since april of 2012 and the car was just a few months old with approximately 8,000 miles on the car. …”
