“My low tire pressure light came on while I was driving. I pulled into the next gas station and noticed that 3 out of my 4 tires had a bubble on the outside sidewall.”

NHTSA complaint #10500902, filed 2013-03, 14,192 miles

“Last oct. I noticed my tires on the rear of my car were bald .I took it to the dealership to have it looked at they would not do anything with it . So I talked to the owner he agreed to replace them. They checked the alignment said nothing was wrong. Put new tires on ,now one year later tires are bald again. Dealer said they would not do anything for me . Hyundai said they will not do anything. The car has only 32000 miles on it. This is going to be the 2nd. Set of tires on the rear in 1 year .please let me know what I can do to resolve this problem. Thank you”

NHTSA complaint #10654864, filed 2014-11, 32,000 miles

“Two! Not one but two of the oem tires have bubbles in the sidewall. That is a blow out waiting to happen and god knows what damage that can do. I'm afraid to drive the car for fear that one of the tires could blow out and send me off into a ditch. To top it off, the car did not come with a spare tire (to save weight and improve gas mileage) so if it does blow out and I can safely control the car over to the side of the road, I'm screwed and stranded. This happened to me last year and I had to have the car towed to the dealer and buy a new tire. Blow outs are very dangerous. …”

NHTSA complaint #10549712, filed 2013-10, 36,000 miles

“Pothole induced tire failure - torn sidewall. The limited edition of this car is fitted with 17 rims -- stock tire is a 215.45.17. With approximately 22,000 miles of driving, we have destroyed three tires on potholes, fortunately all were at low speed and there was no loss of control. However, hitting a pothole or other break in the pavement at high speed could easily destroy the tire and cause the vehicle to go out of control. The aspect ratio is simply to small for safety. A review of automotive forums indicates this is a common problem for Hyundai elantras with 17 rims. …”

“The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was not manufactured with a spare tire, only with an air pump. The manufacturer was contacted who advised that the vehicle adhered to the federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) and provided no additional assistance. The failure and the current mileage was 1,500. Updated 03/09/12 updated 03/14/12”
