Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I have never received any recall notices at my address, by phone email, not even face to face with the dealer when I took the car to the dealership. I stumbled across this by accident trying to find online how to fix my electronic key, that was friday, february, 28, 2014. From 2002 to now, no mail, except to extend my warranty. They could reach me then. …”

NHTSA complaint #10567027, filed 2014-03, 8,000 miles

“Luckily driving slowly...applied my brakes and the passenger wheel turned inward causing the car to hop. The lower control arm on that side had rotted and failed leaving no control to steer that wheel. Car was towed and repaired at a aaa repair station. Have the rotted part(the lower control arm). I never received a recall for this from Hyundai.”

NHTSA complaint #10275816, filed 2009-07, 98,337 miles

“Clutch failed at 44,000 miles after buying car used. Service department would not fix , stated it was wear and tear. Cost $1500 to fix. Airbag light stays on, past 65,000 so service department wont fix it unless I pay for it. Hatch back latch wont work, $200 to fix that. Headlights burn out every other month. Brought car to service center because of a noise in the front of car. Said they couldnt hear anything. 2000 miles over my warrentee brought car back because it was getting worse, said it was front wheel assembly and would cost $1000 to fix. …”

NHTSA complaint #10201189, filed 2007-08, 44,000 miles

“The lower control arm rusted and broke allowing the wheel to break lose and tilt in at the bottom. Had this happened at highway speeds the results likely would have been loss of control and crash. It's a defect Hyundai is aware of but failed to notify all owners. And Hyundai is shorting the recall to certain states blaming the issue on road salt corrosion. While in fact it is a huge problem that Hyundai is ignoring and leaving their consumers in harms way. There has to be many Hyundai vehicle owners driving today in cars that are ticking time bombs. …”

NHTSA complaint #10471506, filed 2012-08, 65,000 miles

“The vehicle was being driven on a winding country road at speed about 35 MPH. The left rear wheel began to wobble and caused the car to fish tail. Driver attempted to keep vehicle on the road but ran off side twice before left wheel totally fell on side and vehicle came to stop. Vehicle on side of failure never left roadway or hit curb etc but car severely damaged. Failure from rear left suspension bolt pulling through upper control arm holes (stamped metal brace).”
