“While on freeway 65 MPH, the tire started to bounce , and shutter..I pulled over and checked out my tire and saw the tread starting to come apart from the rest of the tire...the whole way around the tire.”

NHTSA complaint #10210220, filed 2007-11

“These tires haven't actually failed but they are absolutely the worst hydroplaning tires I have ever owned. At 40 MPH on straight roads you feel like you're going to lose control. I bought a set to put on our Jeep Cherokee 2 weeks before the recall, although I didn't purchase the recalled size. I also have a set of the steeltex at on a ford f-250 pickup I purchased new and they are worthless on wet roads also. (tiresize: lt23575r15)( DOT number: tire size: lt23575r15 )”

NHTSA complaint #744099, filed 2001-04

“While driving 55 MPH consumer heard a loud noise and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Consumer noticed that the front passenger tire blew out. The vehicle was taken to a garage for inspection.”

NHTSA complaint #10097773, filed 2004-10

“Was driving vehicle when the tire went flat. Placed the spare tire on vehicle, which was p22570r/15. The other 3 tires were 24570r/15. The front differential overheated & failed due to having a smaller tire on vehicle. Taking vehicle to dealer to check.”

NHTSA complaint #852133, filed 1999-11

“1994 Jeep grand Cherokee caught on fire due to small spare tire. **cc the consumer had a flat tire and changed it with the factory spare provided. About 10-15 miles down the road the consumer heard a pop and thought he had another flat. He exited the vehicle and saw smoke and flames coming out of the differential case. The consumer ran a safe distance and watch the vehicle burn because there was nothing he could do. The fire department arrived shortly after and extinguished the flames. The fire was caused by the factory spare which was too small (t-155/90 d16 26 , with 28.8 tires on it). …”
