“My 2001 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo has been shutting off while I am driving and also sometimes it doesn't start properly. My mechanic doesn't know what is wrong with it. This is the second time he is looking at it. This has been going on for approximately three months. What really concerns me though is that it is just shutting off while I am driving. This defect may cause a serious accident while I am in traffic. I am scared to drive it cause it is happening everytime I drive it now. …”
NHTSA complaint #10315246, filed 2010-03, 75,000 miles“For the past year my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo limited has been overheating if we idle for more than 1-2 minutes. As long as the rpms don't go over 2000 it will happen. I went on a trip last may up a canyon. Drove about 50 miles to the canyon and all was fine. While going up the canyon speeds stayed below 20 MPH because we were following my in-laws and there was quite a bit of dust the AC was off I didn't notice that the temperature gage was raising. When I noticed it, I guess it was too late. I stopped the Jeep and hoped that it would cool down. As I lifted the hood. …”
NHTSA complaint #10524654, filed 2013-07, 105,000 miles“Multiple failures with my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee just beyond the 3/36 warranty. The vehicle now has 55,000 miles: 1. Vehicle required a complete front brake overhaul: new pads, rotors, calipers. Also, . Hood props failed; 3. Water pump failed, window regulator failed, and rear hatch props beginning to fail these incidents all occurred between 36,000 and 55,000 miles (2004-2005). Eep takes no responsibility for anything beyond 36,000 miles. They offer extremely poor customer service at the corporate office. I strongly recommed against purchasing Jeep products.”
NHTSA complaint #10110747, filed 2005-02, 40,000 miles“The low coolant light comes on and depending on the outside temperate the vehicle will either overheat, have no heat or provide A/C cooling only while driving and not while sitting idle. I've had repairs and coolant flushes. The repairs last one week and then the low coolant light comes on again and the issues start all over again.”
NHTSA complaint #10221445, filed 2008-03, 124,000 miles“2001 Jeep grand cherokee. Leaking coolant. Replaced water pump and hoses. Continued to leak, oil pressure drops at idle and recently coolant has been found mixed with the oil. The head is cracked and allowing coolant to mix with the oil. Seems to be a common problem in Jeep heads cast around 2000.”
