2016: “The fuel tank on my 2016 Ktm 690 DUKE does not seal around the fuel door. Gas can spill out of the top of the tank, especially with a full tank. The fuel tank is also open to the atmosphere causing vapor to enter an enclosed parking garage. The tank appears to be warped at the area where the fuel door is mounted to the tank. The gas smell has always been present since purchasing the bike but I did not find the problem until 6 months later. The dealer was notified and they said to immediately bring the bike in. …”

2014: “There is a manufacture defect causing the plastic gas tank to swell, crack and becoming flexible to the touch due to the pressure and gasses from the fuel. The result of the gas tank swelling, it will spray gas onto the bike and the rider while in motion due to it not sealing properly around the flange. This is a reoccurring issue with no fix to the problem. I purchased my 2014 Ktm 690 DUKE new on january 1, 2017. I had the tank replaced by the local Ktm dealer (tj cycles in austin, texas) in february and the issue has occurred again. …”

NHTSA complaint #11031924, filed 2017-10, 1,600 miles

2017: “The plastic gas tank has warped causing leaks both on the bottom of the tank where the fuel pump attaches and on the top of the tank where the filler neck is attached. The leak from the fuel pump area occurs both when the bike is ridden and stationary, the leak from the filler area occurs when the bike is ridden and gas sloshes to the top of the tank.”
