“Rear tail lamp housings failed numerous times causing the bulbs not to work. This created a situation where only one or none of the lamps were working. I replaced them and later found out that a recall or investigation was issued but I was never notified. Interior dome light has failed twice. Headlamp failure has occurred in low beam six times and in high beams three times. The vehicle has stalled on numerous occasions when the heated seats, heated windshield and headlamps were on simultaneously.”
NHTSA complaint #10490672, filed 2013-01, 94,501 miles“In mid-october 2004, I bought a new Land Rover Freelander from the jim coleman of frederick, md dealership. The vehicle has had massive electrical issues. Since november of '04, the hill descent light (the lr manual suggests this means a major problem), srs (airbag) and the check engine light come on several times. Car has left me stranded twice before 2 months old. When we went to get the car for pick up, the car was dead. Other recurring problems include: not accelerating properly for highway entry/intersections/left turns. Sluggish, hesitant, lunging forward, very slow pick up. …”
NHTSA complaint #10133021, filed 2005-08, 2,000 miles“While driving the car, first the check engine light came on, few minutes later a second light(the check engine soon light) came on, then the car stalled completely from a speed of 40 km/hr. This is the third time im sending the vehicle to the dealer to be checked for engine lights, but its the first time the car stops completely. All in all this is the 5th time I had a serious defect, requiring the car to be sent to the dealer.”
NHTSA complaint #10104757, filed 2004-12, 25,000 miles“Replaced thermostat due to coolant leakage. Service engine soon light keeps coming on and car looses power and shakes violently. Have had to pull over numerous times and shut engine down and leave for a few minutes, service engine soon light stays illuminated. Now tc (traction control) and downhill decent light keep coming on. Took to repair shop and they replaced brake light switch, but lights illuminated while on their final test drive. They told me everything was fine, it could be a wiring issue with the harness and would need to schedule time to investigate. …”
NHTSA complaint #10336896, filed 2010-06, 87,950 miles“The free lander service engine light and service engine soon light came on and the vehicle lost all engine power. The vehicle was returned to the ascot import cars with less than 12000 miles. Ascot (the dealership) cleared the error codes and returned the feelander. The next day the lights came on again, and the car's engine lost all power. Ascot claimed to replace the wiring harness and the ecu; however, this is hard to verify because it is very difficult to get accurate service records from them. …”
