“Incident one: I was locked out of my car and needed to call Lexus roadside assistance for help. The technician struggled with the mechanical override to open the car, but was able to force it eventually. He explained the 12V battery was dead. There was nothing left on that would have drained the battery. Incident two: The following week, I was able to enter the vehicle and turn it partially on but was not able to drive the car and after I turned off the power, I was trapped in the vehicle. Lexus roadside assistance came again and jump-started the 12V battery. …”
NHTSA complaint #11756071, filed 2026-08“This a new 2026 electric car with an~80% charge in the traction battery. Unfortunately the 12 V battery failed after I got into the car and closed the car door. Nothing on the car worked including the door locks leaving me trapped. Fortunately I had my phone with me so I could call for assistance. I shudder to think if I had not or if my grand kids had been playing in the car while we weren’t around. . In talking to Lexus roadside assistance something similar had occurred in south Florida that required a 911 call to save the guy inside. This is a serious problem.”
