Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The cruise control module stopped working on my vehicle and now I'm told it can't be replaced. Subsequently, the radio & A/C stopped working. This cruise control module had to be replaced because of it's ability to spontaneously combust the car in flames as it did on my 1996 Lincoln Town Car. Why doesn't the government enforce the recall laws?”

NHTSA complaint #10552317, filed 2013-11, 72,534 miles

“Dt: the contact stated the cruise control caused vehicle to accelerate while he was depressing the brake pedal. The brake was depressed to disengage the cruise. However, the vehicle sped up. He had to depress the brake pedal several times to get the cruise control to shut off. He took the vehicle to dealer ,they offered to fix the problem at contact's expense. Therefore, repairs were not done. Updated 12/27/05.”

NHTSA complaint #10143015, filed 2005-11, 70,000 miles

“While traveling approximately 70 MPH vehicle jumped out of cruise control and accelerated uncontrollably. Consumer was able to stop vehicle without incident. Dealership has examined vehicle, but unable to find cause through a diagnostic and driven examination.”

NHTSA complaint #897684, filed 2001-10

“Whenever pressure is applied to accelerator pedal, vehicle would stall out or die. Took to dealer & informed anti-slip would dethrottle engine. Would happen in traffic. Took to another dealer & informed the same thing. Anti-slip keeps wheel from spinning on wet pavement.”

NHTSA complaint #828257, filed 1998-09

“Vehicle was inside of a car wash. Shifted gear and vehicle surged in uncontrollable speed and merged into another vehicle. Then, came to a complete stop.”

NHTSA complaint #883821, filed 2001-03
