“When involved in a collision in an intersection, the airbag deployed incorrectly. It popped out of the steering wheel but failed to inflate. Not only did this not protect me from whiplash but it also burned a hole in my dress and caused 1st and 2nd degree burns on my upper inner thighs due to the malfunction. The airbag however was fully inflated 48 hours later when sitting in a towing yard.”
NHTSA complaint #10991087, filed 2017-05, 21,000 miles“Hi, car was involved in a small fender bender. Airbags were NOT deployed. However, an error code 19 (B0001) came on the dash related to driver side sensor. If not fixed, airbags will not deploy in case of accident and that puts me and my family in danger. Dealer won't service the vehicle because it has more than 100,000 miles (122,000 miles to be exact on my car). Other mechanics won't touch the airbag system. What am I supposed to do as the car is not safe to be driven and dealer refusing to help.”
NHTSA complaint #11611049, filed 2024-08“The contact owns a 2015 Mazda 6. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator flashed on and off and the front passenger air bag off indicator remained illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 60,000.”
NHTSA complaint #11203479, filed 2019-04, 60,000 miles“Waited months for dealer to repair recalled air bag inflator. Have not been contacted. Car may have been driven in high humid areas as it was originally a rental.”
