“The driver's side seat has been loose for a while. The power controls to adjust seat position failed over a year ago. The day before yesterday on the way home from work my husband experienced the feeling of the seat disconnecting. It has detached from the track. The welding became unwelded. The drivers side seat belt has not been latching for about 6 months. I have researched the incident and found that many people have experienced these same problems and yet ford motor company says that there is no defect. We have been unable to correct the failure as of yet. We are unable to afford repairs. …”
NHTSA complaint #10222607, filed 2008-03“When we 1st bought the car the drivers seat had a lot of movement. Brought it to dealer and the replaced the frame. That was in 1994. In 1997 I was driving and the entire seat came off the frame. I was told the it needed to be welded back on and I paid over $300. Two years later the seat has broken from the track again. I don't trust that the seat is safe. I called ford and the said they wouldn't pay for the repair. I feel this is something that should never break no less 3 times and I shouldn't be responsible for the repair. …”
NHTSA complaint #703641, filed 1999-02“Power driver seat feels like its making clunking noise when accelerating or braking. Would rock back & forth. When transmission goes into overdrive it would experience a rambling in the vehicle. Took to dealer & the mechanic indicated that the problem was the torque converter. Installing the torque convertor has solved the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #869275, filed 2000-08“Power seat is not aligned on track, causing seat belt not to work properly. When sudden braking is applied there is no signal sent to the seat belt to lock up. The dealer was notified.”
NHTSA complaint #8005350, filed 2002-03“Driving vehicle 30 MPH; weather rainy; road slick; rearended by another vehicle going undetermined speed; both front seats collapsed bacwards upon impact, restricting driver's view.”
