“While driving on the freeway the gas engine to my 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid unexpectedly shut down at least 4 times last evening. The control panel displayed a red triangle alter and the phrase stop safely now . This was a very dangerous situation on a crowded detroit freeway where I had to maneuver over multiple lanes at a slow speed to stop the vehicle on the right shoulder (the only available space). The vehicle restarted each time and the problem recurred after less than a mile 4 or 5 times and then has not occurred since. …”
NHTSA complaint #10404534, filed 2011-06, 81,115 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. The contact stated that while parked, the ignition switch did not move from the off to on position without warning. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the coolant pump needed to be updated and repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system). The approximate failure mileage was 199,000. The VIN was not available.”
