“Driver seat moves back into exit position and interior lights come on while driving. This happens at any speed periodically and while going over bumps. I am very short so when this happens I have a difficult time reaching the gas/brake. I have 4 young children and this is a very big safety issue while driving.”

NHTSA complaint #10547864, filed 2013-10

“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. While driving 30 MPH, the front driver's seat automatically retracted backwards. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. Also, the interior lighting illuminated on its own. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10917907, filed 2016-10, 135,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the front driver's seat moved back independently and the dome light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that they could not find a defect in the seating switch but the failure still persisted. The manufacture was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 66,600. Updated 3/14/14”

NHTSA complaint #10562682, filed 2014-02, 66,600 miles

“While driving the driver seat slides back into exit form and it is hard to reach the gas and brakes and the interior lights come on. This happens periodically while driving if you touch the ignition as if you are going to start the vehicle the seat will go back into place and the interior lights will go off.”
