“The brake booster accumulator is leaking so it makes a 'chirping' sound from the left side of the vehicle. This is a recognized fault with this vehicle and a recall was issued I did not get notification of the recall so did not get it fixed. It has now become a problem which I am told could cause the brakes to fail, obviously a serious safety issue. I have spoken to Mitsubishi and they will not honor the recall.”

NHTSA complaint #11324165, filed 2020-05, 206,000 miles

“When I step on the break pedal I hear a buzzing sound coming from the front compartment of the vehicle. The break is not functional since it is hard and stays up while I depress with my foot. While driving or when the engine is running I hear this sound periodical and a steady sound with the anti lock/ break light on”

NHTSA complaint #10538137, filed 2013-08, 107,371 miles

“I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero and it has about 135k miles, today it had ABS brake warning light came on and continuous beep came, then brakes became too hard and stopped working. I had to use handbrakes to stop the vehicle. It seems like the problem as stated in 2001 recall 01v254001. Please help me to resolve this problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10419759, filed 2011-08, 134,000 miles

“Several months ago the accumulator broke on my mitsubshi Montero limited. The dealer is saying that the accumulator was replaced, under recall, prior to my acquiring the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle in 2002. If the accumulator was replaced it should not have broken. I was quoted a price of $4,000 to have repaired. Your help is greatly appreciated.”

NHTSA complaint #10242704, filed 2008-09, 120,000 miles

“Was going down a hill when I couldn't press my brake pedal because it was too stiff! The ABS and brake light turn and with a constant beeping noise. Thankfully there was a hill going back up so I was able to slow it and pull it off the road fine. Glad it didn't happen at other points of my trip! My brake booster has gone bad and Mitsubishi says it's not part of the recall. Seems like they have a lot of problems with this and it's never part of the recall.”
