“I took my vehicle in to have the oil change done and was informed by the technician that the rear stabilizer bar on the passenger side was broken and a section of it was hanging down. I immediately took my vehicle to the dealership, where they placed it on the rack and confirmed this information. The broken stabilizer bar was removed and an order placed for the new part. The service manager at the dealership confirmed that there were no signs of abuse and that they just don't know what caused this!”
NHTSA complaint #10483297, filed 2012-11, 11,544 miles“Sway bar broke after no particular incident. The mechanic, a friend who I trust greatly and have known for a long time, said it seemed odd that this piece would break for no apparent reason. The piece was not rusted or corroded in any abnormal manner.”
NHTSA complaint #10605766, filed 2014-06, 70,000 miles“2007 Nissan altima rear sway bar broker for no apparent reason. I will have to call dealer for resolution. The internet notes this as a common problem on this car.”
NHTSA complaint #10386260, filed 2011-03, 41,000 miles“Noticed a hanging pipe/bar near my rear left wheel when checking to see what was making noises when I drive. I did not know what that was but after searching online I confirmed that it is the rear sway bar for my Nissan Altima Hybrid. Reading online and talking with mechanics I learned that many people share the same exact problem as me! Basically a lot of people drive their car normally and one day all of a sudden the bar breaks! Without a sway bar the car now has degraded handling and is a hazard to drivers on the road. …”
