Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The LEAF often shows that my passenger air bag is disabled, even though my son who is over 100 pounds is sitting in the seat with the seat belt on. This happens about 50% of the time at all speeds when he is in the passenger seat. I think there is something wrong with the sensors in the passenger seat. I would hate to get in a crash and not have the airbags deploy!”

NHTSA complaint #10668254, filed 2014-12, 7,000 miles

“My wife sat in passenger seat and closed the door. We noticed that the air bag indicator was sensing that there was no one sitting in the passenger seat (air bag off)”

NHTSA complaint #10865279, filed 2016-05, 3,500 miles

“The passenger air bag turns on at random times when a passenger (over 140 pounds) is in the seat. This happens randomly, but consistently. We've tried different configurations; getting in the seat after the car has started, hoping up and down (trying to trigger the weight sensor), changing occupants, un-buckling and re-buckling the seat belt. Nothing seems to make the issue go away. Car is at the dealership, so far they have no leads.”

NHTSA complaint #10716504, filed 2015-05, 11,000 miles

“The contact owned a 2015 Nissan LEAF. While driving approximately 40 MPH, the vehicle was involved in a front end three vehicle collision. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to a towing yard where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. There was one injury that did not require medical attention. The contact suffered from back pain and pain to the right hand and thumb pain. A police report was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10838480, filed 2016-02, 25,000 miles

“Manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time for recall repair. Nthsa recall 16v-244 for Nissan LEAF 2015 recall was issued over a year ago. Manufacturer has not issued parts for repair.”

NHTSA complaint #11019385, filed 2017-08
