Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Tailgate gas spring bracket design on tailgate inadequate. Failed abruptly, resulting in the tailgate slamming shut, narrowly missing lorraine and son who had just stepped away from the opening. If they had been in the way, they would have been injured, perhaps severely. Gas spring drove upwards with great force and damaged tailgate and back glass.”

NHTSA complaint #726429, filed 2000-08

“Interior lights sometimes stay on wont shut off, digital compass, tempature screen wont keep memory--broken fuel pump, leaked gas---driver door will not shut, frame around door latch to crack & break---rear wiper does not move---factory deck sometimes does not work---cd player wont work at all---service engine light stays on---key gets stuck in ignition--automatic door lock does not work---loud knocking sound when turning”

NHTSA complaint #9006554, filed 2002-07

“The interior lights blink on an off while driving. At the same time this happens, the door locks do not work and the automatic seat button does not work. This happens sporadically, then it stops. A week goes by and it happens again. Last week, while driving at night, the headlights were blinking on and off. The dealer cannot find a specific problem unless it is happening when it is at the shop. Every time I get near the shop it does not do it.”

NHTSA complaint #753804, filed 2001-10

“The driver's door frame/structure dropped, which resulted in the door being off track. Consumer had to use excessive force to close the door in order for it to latch and lock.”

NHTSA complaint #10015005, filed 2003-04

“Power door/ locks lock and unlock involuntarily. Gmc expects consumer to pay to inspect problem. The door locks lock and unlock while driving as well as while stopped.”

NHTSA complaint #878779, filed 2001-01
