“The rear calipers failed for the origional owner, they were replaced at origional dealer, they again failed shortly after I bought the car. I have replaced them twice. This is a very poor design, they don`t adjust evenly or the same each time you set the parking brake. I have called general motors and was simply brushed off. I have never owned a car with such a miserable brake system.”
NHTSA complaint #702509, filed 1999-01“I have had many premature failures in the 9 years I have owned this vehicle of the calipers, rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. Oldsmobile main customer service was no help.”
NHTSA complaint #727854, filed 2000-08“Consumers son was operating the vehicle with the cruise control engaged. Tapping the brake pedal to disengage the cruise control, the vehicle did not respond. Thinking the accelerator was stuck, consumer tried to free it by hand. The accelerator was free and functioning. The dealers final diagnosis was the cruise control linkage did not disengage but held the accelerator open, causing a racing engine and runaway vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #567813, filed 2002-10“Brakes fail to stop vehicle completely, and excessive effort is needed to apply brakes. A repair shop has examined vehicle and cannot determine a cause for this problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.”
NHTSA complaint #890532, filed 2001-06“Consumer owns a 1991, 1994, and 1996 Cutlass supreme, all of which have experienced numerous brake system problems, brake pads and rotors have been replaced, calipers loaded, and bearings were packed, consumer requests reimbursement.”
