Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Driving on I-95 south in moderate traffic at about 30 MPH when traffic slowed ahead of me. When I applied brakes, nothing happened. I applied brakes with 2 feet to the floor and no response. The crash involved the three cars in front of me with no serious injuries but it was frightening. I have read a few similar complaints of this type for 2000 and 1999 silhouettes.”

NHTSA complaint #10000633, filed 2002-12, 44,000 miles

“Intake manifold gasket leaking at 38,000 miles. Replace by GM under warranty. Intake manifold leaking again at 70,000 miles. Needs to be replaced again. I contacted GM customer assistance and they basically said they wouldn't help me because they already paid for it once. This problem is in addition to brake cylinder problems and other coolant system problems. I also have considerable leaks in this vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10053033, filed 2004-01

“Consumer states that while his wife was driving she lost brake availability. Consumer said that the brakes went spongy. Took vehicle to the dealership, but did not have it repaired by the dealership because of the expense. He said that the tubing went bad. He has never heard of this kind of a problem with a new vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10029779, filed 2003-07

“Intermittent and ongoing brake problem. When applying the brakes brake pedal went to the floor, causes pulsation and extended stopping distance. Vehicle had been to the dealer on nine different occasions. Dealer replaced many parts of the ABS system, but extended stopping distance recurred.”

NHTSA complaint #10075516, filed 2004-06

“When driving on wet pavement and when attempting to stop, consumer applied brake pedal and brakes failed to respond, causing extended stopping distance. Also, when brakes were applied there was a squeaking noise coming from the front brakes. Consumer has contacted the dealer.”
