“Studded snow tires were purchased and put on by gulf service station in pittsfield, me on 12/03/02. On 01/01/03 the driver front snow tire blew off rim of wheel. Tire was not recovered at accident site. Tire could not be found by ny state trooper nor my husband! Vehicle was totalled.”
NHTSA complaint #10000846, filed 2003-01, 58,214 miles“While pulling into a driveway vehicle accelerated. Consumer had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The ignition wouldn't turn on, the rear hatch would not open, the computer system had blown out, there were numerous electrical problems, and the tire exploded.”
NHTSA complaint #10083823, filed 2004-09, 17,000 miles“While applying the brake pedal the consumer heard a loud noise and the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic determined that the brakes needed to be replaced and replaced them. However, the problem recurred. The transmission felt as if it was falling out, the tire exploded while driving, the power lost, and hatch (rear) would not open.”
NHTSA complaint #10094901, filed 2004-11, 16,000 miles“I hit a pothole at 25 MPH and within 1/2 mile the tire was completely flat. On inspection, the tire had what appeared to be a slash mark on the sidewall, proceeding into the tread. I took the tire to daniels Pontiac in geneva ny and was told that this was a roadhazard problem, so there would be no coverage. In addition, there is a backorder on this tire so it may take up to a week to get a new tire. I am forced to ride on the donut spare tire in the meantime. I contacted a firestone rep. …”
NHTSA complaint #754220, filed 2001-11“After the 1st year routine nys inspection, I was required to replace the rear brakes. Dealer and subsequent call to Pontiac both indicated that the material used on brake pads wear more quickly since they are no longer made of the asbestos material. Granted at 22000 miles it was sooner than expected. I was also told that due to failure to rotate my tires at the 6000 mile mark, I had to replace 2 tires due to wear. Dealership would not pass the nys inspection without completing the work... Am I to expect a brake replacement yearly?”
