“Went to the store and when I came out my car would not start, the security light was flashing. I read the owners manual and it said to clean the key and checks the fuses. I did both of these and still no start. I called a GM dealer and told him what had happened, he said that the car is not recogoning the key and that is why it wont start. The key has a chip on it, now this is in no way something that was caused by neglect, it is from a defect in the key, yet GM will not pay to get this fix and get the car back on the road.”
NHTSA complaint #10120922, filed 2005-05“4 alternator failures are way beyond what is normal in 97000 miles. Other Pontiac owners indicate that GM seems to have a history of this problem though the dealers deny it. Based on the problems we've had I doubt we'd buy another GM car.”
NHTSA complaint #748468, filed 2001-07“Perfect woriking condition; half an hour after being parked the vehicle caught on fire under the hood. Consumer states recall 95-c-68 was completed in may of 1996 regarding the replacement of a cooler hose, consumer states this could have caused an engine fire.”
NHTSA complaint #804925, filed 1996-11“Wire burnt at fuse panel, engine high idle up to 3,000 RPM w-no warning. Fuse panel problem caused door locks, rear window defroster, elect. Seat not to work. Could only exit vehicle via manual door locks. Dealer attempted to find problem cost over $1,000 finally did not want car back (still not fixed) went to electrical specialist (another $900). Found melted wire with bad crimp on fuse panel. I have wire cut out. Car idles up to 3000 RPM at idle mostly and in drive can not kick down. Dealer could not fix replaced parts. Very intermittent but dangerous problem.. Have video tape of it doing it. …”
