“I was driving back to san diego on sunday september 10 2000 on I-15. The highway had previously been congested and traffic was moving as slow as 20 MPH. A few miles north of baker, california the congestion eased and traffic sped up to about 60 MPH. Shortly after accelerating to 60 MPH, the left front tire blew out. I pulled to the side of the road and confirmed the tire had blown. I drove another 100 feet along the shoulder at 2 MPH to a place wide enough to change the tire. I removed the flat tire and replaced it with a spare. …”
NHTSA complaint #739110, filed 2001-01“Tires hydroplaned even though all cars in front of me were going the same speed (45 MPH). Hydroplaning caused the car to go up embankment and rollover and crumpling drivers side front fender along with 75% of all the windows being knocked out.
