“The brakes on my 2001 Pontiac Montana wear out prematurely. I had to replace the front pads 3 times in 2 years. In each case the inboard pad had excessive wear and the outboard pad did not. I have been informed the wear indicators are on the outboard pads, this presents a lack of warning to the driver that the brakes are in need of service. The calipers have been replaced once and this did not solve the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10016238, filed 2003-04, 58,000 miles

“My original set of inner brake pads were 75% worn per dealer repair shop at 29,672 miles. The outer pads were fine. The rotors were approaching end of life. I had them replace the pads at this time. The dealer did not offer to cover them under warranty. At 30,945, 1273 miles later, I took the car back for another brake inspection. At this time they found that the rotors were rusted and pitted, not normal wear. They replaced the pads and the rotors under warranty (seems strange it wasn't warranty before?!?!?). Now at 65k miles I took the car in for a brake inspection at a repair shop. …”

NHTSA complaint #10130739, filed 2005-07, 65,163 miles

“2001 Pontiac Montana brake system failure. Customer states that her brake system failed unexpectedly. She wants general motors to reimburse her for fixing the vehicle. The consumer stated the brake line leaked onto the electronic brake control module which caused an electrical short. The intake manifold gasket had to be replaced previously on the vehicle. Updated 12/12/2007 updated 12/12/07”

NHTSA complaint #10202611, filed 2007-09, 100,322 miles

“While driving at 35 MPH the consumer attempted to turn, but the vehicle went straight. The vehicle would not steer, the consumer lost control and went straight. The vehicle struck several trees, and sheared one off that landed on top of the vehicle. The consumer was wearing a seat belt and suffered a concussion. The vehicle was totaled in the accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10044280, filed 2003-12, 45,000 miles

“Dt: the consumer stated that 2001 Pontiac Montana was having the ABS brakes engage at low speeds of 10-15 MPH. The instrument panel was showing the ABS and service traction needed lights on the dashboard. The consumer will take the vehicle to dealer for service. The consumer specifically stated that this just started happening last week. The dealer has not been contacted, but the consumer contacted Pontiac and filed a complaint with them.”
