“Takata recall I have read many complaints about this same issue. It first started with my car slowing down, didn't matter how hard you press the gas it will not move. Then after letting it set of a minute/cooldown, it will ride for a few miles then complete stop with the engine still running. I notice a hot smell coming from under the hood. The traction control light and stabilitrack state that it needs service. When I drive it the brakes stop the car on its own. …”

NHTSA complaint #11001434, filed 2017-06, 180,000 miles

“The first night I noticed the service stabilitrak light on the dashboard. The next night my battery completely died and I had to buy another one. Then, the dashboard said service stabilitrak sometimes and sometimes the brake light came on or it said service traction control. From what I'm gathering online this is a common problem that will eventually lead to my reduced engine power light coming on and my speed will be limited to something like 10-20 MPH and I'm afraid because I already work overnight and away from home. …”

NHTSA complaint #10547628, filed 2013-10, 56,242 miles

“While driving on city streets, I tried to slow down to make a turn. The brakes failed to respond in a normal manner. As I pushed on the brake pedal, at first there was no response as if the brakes had not been applied. The car continued moving at the same speed. As I continued to push down on the brake pedal, the car did slow down, but the brakes did not feel normal. The pedal felt as if it were moving through some sort of thick liquid. The incident lasted a few seconds. I had to make the turn at a speed that was too high. There was no accident. Since then, the brakes have behaved normally. …”

NHTSA complaint #10329313, filed 2010-05, 28,000 miles

“When driving the vehicle slows down, it feels like the brakes are applied on their own. The service stabiltrak light blinks, stabilitrak off, and traction control off flash. It feels as if the wheels do not slow at the same time. The vehicle makes an awful noise.”

NHTSA complaint #11269958, filed 2019-10, 138,000 miles

“The contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2008 Pontiac Torrent. The contact (who was an independent mechanic) stated that the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve failed and shut off the ABS. Also, the disable indicator illuminated. The contact stated that the EGR valve failure should not have shut off the ABS. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The contact replaced the EGR valve and repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000. The VIN was unknown.”
