The retainer that secures the automatic transmission control rod linkage to the steering column lower shift lever may loosen and could disengage.

Possible consequence

This could result in separation of control rod fromlower shift lever. Also, shift indicator may not reflect gear the transmissionis in creating an accident potential.

Remedy

Install a transmission linkage retainer.
