What NHTSA recorded

The rectifier installed in a vented compartment in the passenger side stepwell of the vehicle overheats and breaks down due to inadequate ventilation.

Possible consequence

The overheating and breakdown of the rectifier causedsubsequent failures to the alternators of the vehicles involved.

Remedy

Move the rectifiers from the stepwell area to the underside of the bus behind the entrance door to insure proper ventilation.
