Routing of the wiring harness to the steering wheel controls may permit chafing between the steering column lock disc and the convoluted tubing which houses the electrical harness.

Possible consequence

Extensive chafing conditions can cause an electricalshort and result in a fire. Also, the fuse link wired to the ignition circuitmay permit overloading if a short occurs.

Remedy

Clamp the wiring harness away from moving parts of the steering column. Replace the fusible link in the circuit with an appropriate amperage load capacity fusible link.
