Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“The spare tire hoist cable failed. The spare fell out from underneath the pickup bed. There was no rust on the cable. It appears that the failure was all at once. It did not rub or wear against something. The cable broke in one spot, just inside the pressed or crimped end. There was no way to inspect or notice an immanent failure. The vehicle was in our company yard travelling at 5 to 10 MPH. This would have been potentially deadly to another motorist or pedestrian had it failed at high speed.”
