“As I was driving down the highway I accelerated to pass and it seemed as if my throttle shorted out. My car's RPM's dropped and I started to decrease speed. I removed my foot from the accelerator and it seemed to catch again, but as I pushed the pedal again my accelerator went out for a second time. At this point and my engine shut down. I shifted into neutral and tried to restart my car multiple times while rolling with no success. …”

NHTSA complaint #10357146, filed 2010-09, 102,000 miles

“My 2005 Scion TC surges/lurches forward when resuming from a stop. The amount of pressure you apply to the gas pedal has no effect on how the car is going to move forward. The problem was very intermittent and hard to notice but started happening more and more often as of aug./sept. 2008. In mid sept. I almost rear ended the car in front of me taking off from a stop light. I took the car to the selling dealership and the service mgr. Went on a test drive and said he noticed the problem at least 5 times in a few mile drive. …”

NHTSA complaint #10255219, filed 2009-01, 31,000 miles

“The car would stall when trying to accelerate more quickly than normal. This occurred three times in approximately 10 days. This occurred twice on town roads, and the third time while entering the interstate to deliver the car to the dealer for repair. A diagnostic test was done which produced code #p2112--throttle actuator stuck closed. Three new parts were replaced: hose, throttle body; body assy, throttle; gasket , throttle bod.”

NHTSA complaint #10239596, filed 2008-08, 52,900 miles

“The vehicle started shaking uncontrollably and a loud knocking noise had come from the front of the vehicle. The driver was able to control the vehicle, and took it to the dealer. However, the mechanic maintained that the problem could not be duplicated. The vehicle would knock and shake after being started. When driving on the freeway, the vehicle would rattle and felt as if the vehicle could not be controlled due to the shaking of the motor. …”

NHTSA complaint #10117843, filed 2005-05, 397 miles

“The contact owns a 2005 Scion TC. While the driver was at a stop light, the clutch pedal failed and traveled to the floorboard. Prior to the failure, the clutch pedal was sticking. The driver had to pull the clutch pedal up with her left foot. The vehicle was pushed over to the side of the road and later towed to the contact's residence. The contact stated that an independent mechanic came to his residence and diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 166,367.”
