“2000 vw beetleought the car new. At 12,000 miles had a bent tie rod which vw insisted that I damaged which I didn't. If I did I would have blown the tire out. Troddle box needs replacing because of a bad censor. Total cost over $500 not including what I spent replacing the tie rod. Lost power in the car, twice and service cannot find the problem. Check engine light keeps on coming on along with the epc light. Air bag indicator light had to be reset due to the power failure. Vw customer service is worthless. Don't even want to acknowledge the problems.”

NHTSA complaint #10033266, filed 2003-08, 12,000 miles

“Cooling system failed causing the original overheating. The car has continued to peridodically overheat since. The car was fully repaired from the first incident and has been in for repair many times since. Now there are several failures with the car.”

NHTSA complaint #10127408, filed 2005-07, 80,000 miles

“Car pulls hard to the left nearly causing a accident on several occasions..this happens all the time. Sept. 20, 2010 took the 2000 new vw Beetle into the vw dealership to have vehicle check out and repaired. This is the list of things they found wrong! 1. Rear axle bushings on both side was broken with one bushing was inside of frame which causes the car to swerve. 2. Frontend alignment needs to be done. 3. Rear emergency brake cable needs to be replace because it causes one rear wheel to drag. We never use the emergency brake since the vw is a automatic. …”
