“I have a 2005 new Beetle convertible with $40,000 miles. The rear window regulator is broken. The window is up, but I can't use the convertible top because I'm not sure if the window will operate properly. Also the driver's side window does not operate properly with the keyless entry. I have not priced a repair yet. The nearest dealership is 100 miles away.”

NHTSA complaint #10386969, filed 2011-03, 39,200 miles

“2005 vw Beetle rear left window regulator has failed. The glass is not broken, and the motor works, but the window does not go up or down with the switch. It will move by pushing/pulling on it. I have noticed this same complaint on many websites. I did not see when the window failed, it happened just before I purchased it on july 13, 2010.”

NHTSA complaint #10346245, filed 2010-07, 45,000 miles

“Driver side rear window fell down. I'm told the rear window regulator snapped and they have to repair it. For $600! From what I've read online, it seems to be a common problem in the 05 model. It's a shame that Volkswagen doesn't stand behind this and put out a recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10511383, filed 2013-05, 81,400 miles

“Rear passenger window stuck down in 2005 new Beetle convertible - there is apparently a nationwide backorder on this rear window regulator of at least 2 months which means this is a major problem affecting many vw drivers and vw should clearly have a recall - leaving my car with a window open is not at all ideal and I will have to carefully plan out where I park the car until the part is located and installed.”

NHTSA complaint #10421037, filed 2011-08, 80,000 miles

“Front window regulator/cable. Had one of my back windows replaced already the driver side back window regulator/cable is broken my driver side window regulator/cable is broken and my passengers side window regulator/cable is going starting to make that funny noise right before it breaks.”

NHTSA complaint #10285296, filed 2009-09, 50,000 miles
