“Steering wheel electronic controls stopped working for a few minutes. Next time the car was started, the air bag error light came on. There is a louder than normal brushing friction noise during steering, and a metallic ping upon the first turn of the steering wheel after startup that was reported to two vw dealers multiple times over the last two years. Dealers claimed not to hear anything. Issues were not addressed. …”

The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH the vehicle crashed into another vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. During the failure, the contact was thrown against the steering wheel and dashboard. As a result, the contact was taken to the hospital to treat the injuries. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,500. Updated 07/27/11 updated 3/22/12”
