“On October 20, 2026, while driving my 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge to work, the center infotainment touchscreen and the navigation map portion of the instrument display behind the steering wheel unexpectedly went black. The speedometer and EV power gauge remained visible. The displays were black for approximately 15 seconds before the Volvo logo appeared and the infotainment system began rebooting. Full operation returned approximately two minutes after the initial outage. I did not initiate the restart. …”

“The cup holder sparked and starting burning after the sun reflected on a plastic water bottle placed in the cup holder, and the water bottle then reacted to the cup holder material and began smoking. This first occurred the day after purchasing the car, with the water bottle the dealership provided. It has since occurred two additional times. I notified Volvo who does not have a way to cure the defect and advised they needed to check with engineers. We have video of the smoke and burning.”

NHTSA complaint #11487770, filed 2022-10

“There is a software issue in this car which causes the following: 1) Rear backup camera completely turns off multiple times DURING backing up 2) A fault which presents as a propulsion failure, which causes the car to stop unexpectedly, start jerking, and then limits top speed to 20 mph. I've taken the car into the dealership for evaluation and was told there's a software issue, we don't know what date that will be released Overall, Volvo software is incredibly feeble with multiple errors and slow performance. …”

NHTSA complaint #11546426, filed 2023-09

“Car was parked at my house. After a heavy heavy rain, I saw 1/2 standing water on the passenger side floorboards. The cowl drainage had been blocked, and I was told water had found it's way into the cabin. It's an EV, so this is a serious issue. My climate control was inoperative, the tire pressure sensors also affected. And not sure what other systems may have been damaged. This had never happened before, and my repair estimate is $5,000.00. It is unfathomable that a car of this level (and price) could have a design that would allow this situation. Thank you for your attention.”
